Dominance Basics

"Bitcoin dominance" is a widely-used crypto trading metric defined as Bitcoin's share of the global cryptocurrency market cap. For the first time, Domination Finance lets users trade directly against the movements of not just Bitcoin dominance, but Ethereum dominance, USDT dominance, and many more to come.

Dominance Calculation

In the abstract, dominance is pretty simple.

Dominance definition

$$X\ dominance = \frac{X\ market\ cap}{total\ market\ cap}$$

$$X\ market\ cap = X\ price * X\ circulating\ supply$$

$$total\ market\ cap = \sum_{\text{all cryptocurrencies}}{price * circulating\ supply}$$

But actually attempting to calculate it raises many questions. Which exchanges have accurate prices? What is the true circulating supply for each cryptocurrency across all chains? Which cryptocurrencies should be included in the total market cap? Unfortunately, there is no industry standard for these questions.
